Peak Design Slide Review

My hunt for a good strap started around 4 to 5 years ago when I bought my first DSLR. I got tired pretty quick of the straps that camera manufacturers throw in with the camera purchase, they serve their purpose but are not comfortable and they make you look like a bill board walking around with "Canon' or "Nikon" on display!

My first strap purchase was a Carry Speed Extreme shoulder strap,

It was very well built and a very comfortable strap but was not very handy for someone who switches between bodies or lenses with a tripod foot, which I found myself doing a lot when I purchased my 70-200.

I sold that strap when I sold my DSLR body and I bought a Peak Design Capture camera clip when I bought my new camera, it was great (review to come) but didn't replace a strap.

After that I bought a used camera body and the seller included a Black Rapid strap with it.

I thought I had hit the jackpot as it was free and these are some of the most popular straps out there.... well, I noticed that the previous owner had modified the part that screws into the camera and attached a Arca-Swiss plate to it, obviously to make it easier to put the camera on to a tripod while the strap was attached. I didn't feel comfortable with the way it was modified so I hung it up and started to call myself a strapless shooter!

After a while I came across a strap made by the same company that had made the camera clip I had purchased a year or so ago, I was very impressed with the quality of it and decided to try out the strap.

Now for the meat of this post! I bought the strap and as soon as I took it out of the package and started playing with it I knew it was a winner!

In the box you'll find the strap with 4 of these tab things and Peak's Arca-Swiss plate along with instruction manual, wrench and a handy little bag to hold it all

Th strap itself is made from a seat belt type material that is very flexible and is smooth to allow it to 'slide' on your shoulder, it also has a grippy side so you can flip it over to stop it from sliding.

The little tabs attach to the strap hooks on your camera and are designed to stay on your camera and are small enough not to get into the way when you are using your camera without the strap attached. The clip into the ends of the strap using a system Peak is calling 'Anchor Link'. They snap in with an audible click and are very secure.

They give you 4 of these little tabs so you can use them on different cameras or with different setups

It's very quick and easy to change between cameras, and that is what makes this system so attractive. You can order more of these tabs on their webpage or through your dealer and leave them on any camera and use the same strap.

You can also use your tripod with the supplied tripod foot even if you have the strap attached, the Arca-Swiss plate has little holes on 4 sides to allow the tabs to be placed right on the plate and are out of the way so you can mount it right on your tripod.

The strap can be adjusted using the two Aluminium 'Quick-Adjust' handles that are actually made very well and feel great in the hands and they have a nice little "snap" when you lock them.

The strap is well made and high quality materials are used throughout, the attention to details are evident and if you can find it on sale like I did they are not a bad price.

I am not sponsored by Peak Design I just really like their products and I hope you found this informative!

Thank you for reading and have a great day!
